GVD is an agile, growth-oriented, and innovative company looking to add a chemical engineer with 1-3 years of experience. This role will work to develop a proprietary vacuum coating technology for a range of commercial applications, in coordination with commercial customers and government agencies. Position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
GVD is known for its cutting-edge work on novel coating technologies across many industries, including transportation, semiconductor manufacture, alternative fuels & fuel storage, and military electronics. These programs are supported by contracts from the Navy, Department of Energy, DARPA, NIH, and EPA.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on reduction to practice for all aspects of the technical development of the application, including process tuning of the coating technology, product design, and prototype production.
- Work with staff to follow existing and develop additional experimental plans to achieve project goals including design-of-experiment (DOE) matrices, milestones, and timing, along with the design and assembly of the equipment necessary to meet goals.
- Conduct lab work, analytical and performance testing and interpret data and results.
- Maintain and troubleshoot experimental hardware and testing apparatuses
- Prepare frequent written reports to satisfy sponsor/customer requirements and maintain project funding status.
- Participate in regular meetings with our partners and customers to ensure that key requirements, limitations, and goals are identified and met.
- Assist in the preparation of follow-on or new funding proposals.
Job Requirements & Qualifications:
- US Citizens ONLY. No H1B, F1 or other visa candidates and no green card holders will be considered due to security clearance requirements associated with this position.
- BS in Chemical Engineering (Materials Science also considered)
- 1-3 years of experience in R&D, product or process development, with some project management
- 1-3 years lab experience
- Direct experience in materials development or vacuum technology (deposition, etching, sputtering) – preferably both
- Experience with analytical methods such as SEM, AFM, and XPS, preferably with the ability to perform one or more of these methods a plus.
- Excellent project coordination: able to predict project scope accurately, manage resources (including your own time), and deliver on-time and under budget
- Excellent communication skills: frequent, well-written reports are essential to communicate project success quickly and efficiently.
- Able to work independently but not alone; much of the work requires collaboration and communication with many people, both inside and outside the company.
Physical Requirements:
Position requires the ability to work with in a lab with chemicals / solvents as well as office conditions where the individual will walk, stand, stoop, sit, manipulate / adjust instruments/items, and keyboard on a regular basis. Must be able to analyze / synthesize data and communicate issues, findings, processes and ideas in a clear, concise, technically-proficient manner.
